MOGILEV, 6 January (BelTA) – The situation at the Belarusian borders remains stable, with no queues for freight traffic, while new services for passenger cars have been introduced, including electronic registration and the option of crossing the border without waiting, Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Belarus Vladimir Orlovsky told BelTA.
The resumption of traffic by the Polish side at two border checkpoints in 2025 has contributed to the improvement of the situation. Citizens can now cross the Belarusian-Polish border at three checkpoints, with two operating on the Lithuanian direction and one on the Latvian direction.
During the winter holidays, the volume of traffic crossing the border traditionally increases. During peak periods, waiting time can exceed 24 hours. On the Polish direction, an average of about 2,000 passenger cars cross the border daily these days, around 1,000 on the Lithuanian direction, and 200-250 on the Latvian direction.
To improve border crossing conditions, a remote registration system for the electronic queue was launched on 1 January. “Any citizen can register in advance and arrive at the checkpoint at the appointed time,” Vladimir Orlovsky explained.
Furthermore, starting in 2026, a paid service for crossing the border without queuing has been introduced. It is available once per hour, amounting to up to 24 such crossings per day at each checkpoint. The service is already in demand: at the Brest checkpoint on the Belarusian-Polish border alone, about 70 people have already used it.
“Overall, the situation is stable,” chairman of the State Customs Committee said.
