Belarus' Customs working hard to expedite export clearance procedures

MINSK, 5 May (BelTA) – The Belarusian customs service spent as little as five minutes on processing an export consignment in 87% of the cases in Q1 2020, representatives of the State Customs Committee told BelTA.

Thanks to digital technologies, including the automated release of commodities, the Belarusian customs service managed to reduce the time needed to clear an export consignment to five minutes with regard to 87% of the total number of export consignments in Q1 2020. The figure is above the 85% target set by the customs service development strategy for this period.

Nearly 30% of these export consignments were released automatically. The Belarusian customs service started experimenting with the automatic release of merchandise shipments in 2015. The automatic release percentage was under 7% in the early stages of the experiment.
