MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) – On 25 February the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus hosted a meeting between members of the Belarus-Cuba parliamentary cooperation group, representatives of the Standing Commission on Healthcare, Physical Culture, Family and Youth Policy of the House of Representatives and a delegation of the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba, BelTA has learned.
The meeting discussed regulatory and legal support for joint initiatives in healthcare and pharmaceuticals.
According to member of the House of Representatives Sergei Klishevich, Belarus and Cuba are currently stepping up cooperation in various areas. “Our task is to identify what can be stepping stones in our efforts to intensify trade and economic cooperation between our countries. One of such things is, of course, cooperation in healthcare. Cuba is a well-known manufacturer of high-quality and sophisticated medical products. And, naturally, we are interested in buying such products. At the same time, Cuba needs our agricultural machinery and our products,” the MP said.
Sergei Klishevich emphasized that a high-level interparliamentary commission was created by Belarus and Cuba. “Using interparliamentary interaction mechanisms, we streamline our cooperation in trade, economy and politics,” he added.
In turn, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Republic of Belarus Santiago Pérez Benítez added that he views healthcare as a promising avenue of cooperation.
