Austrian ambassador delighted by Belarusian craftwork

MINSK, 23 October (BelTA) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Austria to Belarus Aloisia Worgetter told reporters what Belarusian products and souvenirs are most popular among foreign tourists, BelTA has learned.

According to the diplomat, those who come to Belarus on their own almost certainly buy wonderful products from Belarusian linen. Sugared cranberries are also very popular; so are alcoholic beverages. However, the ambassador was particularly amazed by Belarusian craftwork. “These are very original, innovative, modern and stylish things, but few in Austria have heard about them,” she said. She showed one of such things to reporters – a tiny triangular coin purse from genuine leather that she uses with great joy.

By the way, a Vienna ball will be held at the Yanka Kupala Theater on 14 December. This is the first time such an event will be held in Belarus. Aloisia Worgetter will also be there. Her evening gown will be tailor-made by a Belarusian designer. “This will be a fabulous head-turning outfit played up by a red color,” she said sharing her plans.

The ambassador noted that she was involved in the preparations for the ball, which was an interesting experience and an opportunity to learn more about culture and people of Belarus. “The embassy provides consultative assistance, so that the Vienna ball in Belarus will be held in the spirit of an original Vienna ball. I am very excited and I am looking forward to seeing the results of the work. The concept of the ball is now under discussion. The theater director insists that the concept should feature some elements of traditional Belarusian balls. This inter-cultural dialogue was very educational for me. I learned many new things about your culture and built a better understanding of Belarusians. I expect this ball to be elegant, touching and beautiful,” she said.

The Austrian embassy has plans to arrange another cultural and educational event – a weekend at a ski resort. “Belarus has snow, Austria has snow. You go skiing, we go skiing. When we look at your wonderful snow, we think about arranging some ski-related event. We want to organize a Tyrolean ski event. I don't think it will happen this year, but we are likely to arrange it in this ski season,” the ambassador said.
