Analyst: World is at the starting line of a new nuclear arms race

MINSK, 14 November (BelTA) - The world is at the starting line of a new nuclear arms race, Russian military observer of the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper, Colonel (retired) Viktor Baranets said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
Commenting on the recent decision by the U.S. leadership to resume nuclear testing, Viktor Baranets stated that by doing so, the USA has effectively “unleashed the nuclear genie”. Russia has promised a mirror response to this step by the USA. China, India, and Pakistan will certainly not remain silent observers of these developments either.

According to the military expert, an increase in the number of tests is a sign of a nuclear arms race.

“This one phrase from Trump [about resuming nuclear testing] has led to the world stepping up to the starting line of new nuclear tests, of a new arms race. This means the threshold of nuclear safety is being lowered. The world is becoming more densely mined with nuclear weapons. The globe may one day be unable to bear such a burden,” Viktor Baranets said. “The nuclear arms race will bring us closer to the risk of a nuclear war, a global nuclear war. No one will be able to sit it out: atomic dust is not interested in politics; it flies wherever the wind carries it.”
