MINSK, 3 January (BelTA) – Independent military analyst Aleksandr Alesin told a BelTA correspondent that the goal of U.S. actions in Venezuela is to install a friendly regime and gain control of the country’s natural resources.
“It seems to me that the U.S. goal is to dismantle Venezuela’s top leadership in order to establish a U.S.-friendly regime, which would enable international oil monopolies and companies controlling global mineral production to seize control of all Venezuela’s reserves. Before the Bolivarian Revolution initiated by Hugo Chávez, all resources were controlled by the U.S. After Hugo Chávez came to power, all resources were nationalized and put to the service of Venezuela. This dealt a severe blow to the interests of these monopolies. For a long time, approximately the last 30 years, the U.S. has attempted through covert operations, color revolutions, and election fraud to bring its protégé to power to regain its position in Venezuela,” said Aleksandr Alesin.
The analyst noted that Venezuela holds the world’s largest oil deposits, along with vast quantities of iron ore, bauxite, and other minerals, including rare earth metals. “While previous U.S. presidents primarily relied on covert operations, Donald Trump has decided to use armed force and, through the fifth column and external aggression, change the government in Venezuela, create chaos in the country, and place his own protégés in power,” he stated.
Aleksandr Alesin observed that Latin American countries, including Cuba, as well as China, Belarus, and the Russian Foreign Ministry condemned the U.S. actions. “And now, a wave of condemnation is expected even from the United States’ Western allies. Furthermore, there was an address from Diosdado Cabello, Vice President and Minister of Interior, Justice and Peace, who is considered a staunch U.S. opponent. According to him, the United States has only partially achieved its goals, and Venezuela is regrouping its forces. Before his capture, President Maduro declared martial law and mobilized the troops. Now, it appears that figures even more hawkish toward the United States than Nicolás Maduro (who was inclined to compromise) may come to power. It is difficult to predict the further development of the situation, but it is already clear that there will be no chaos or color revolution in Venezuela, as the security services and armed forces continue to obey the government,” he emphasized.
