Ambassador thanks Belarus for assistance in organizing Russian president election

MINSK, 17 March (BelTA) - I would like to thank the Belarusian authorities for providing the necessary support during the preparation and organization of the Russian president election. Including in terms of security, which is very important now," Russian Ambassador to Belarus Boris Gryzlov said as he talked to the media in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

Ambassador Boris Gryzlov noted that the situation in which the Russian president election is taking place is not easy. "We see that an embittered mob of ill-wishers from unfriendly countries is trying to disrupt the election, destabilize the situation. We see this in the way they are shelling the frontier districts. They even made attempts to break into our territory, which were thwarted. Leaflets with threats are sent to both members of election commissions and voters. There was even an explosion five meters from the wall of a polling station. There are threats over the phone."

The ambassador said that the Russian Consulate General in Brest received a bomb threat message. However, this did not affect the voting process. A thorough check of the premises was carried out. "We keep the security situation under control," Ambassador Boris Gryzlov assured.

He stressed that, despite the provocations by unfriendly forces, Russian citizens are coming to the polls. "The answer of our citizens is the maximum turnout at the polling stations," the diplomat said.

According to him, the election in Belarus has been running normally. All six polling stations in Minsk and regional centers are up and running.
