MINSK, 13 October (BelTA) -  The restored Cathedral of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos (18th century) at the Yurovichi Monastery was consecrated, BelTA learned from the official website of the Belarusian Orthodox Church.

The rite of the Great Consecration was performed by Metropolitan Veniamin of Minsk and Zaslavl, the Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, on 12 October. His Eminence also led the Divine Liturgy in the newly consecrated church. The celebrations were timed to coincide with the 1020th anniversary of the founding of the Turov Eparchy and the 160th anniversary of the cathedral's consecration according to the Orthodox rite.
At the conclusion of the service, Bishop Leonid, the head of the Turov Eparchy, greeted those gathered and noted that this date will enter the history of both the Belarusian Orthodox Church and the country.
According to the bishop, the consecrated cathedral houses a great relic - the Yurovichi Icon of the Mother of God, which people have called "Merciful" in gratitude for the great mercies they have received from God through the intercession of the Mother of God.
Chairman of the Kalinkovichi District Executive Committee Pavel Silivonchik read out a welcoming address from Governor of Gomel Oblast Ivan Krupko.

Metropolitan Veniamin congratulated the parishioners on the consecration of the cathedral. “Today we see a beautiful cathedral that has been lovingly and caringly restored, both inside and out. This is thanks to the fact that in its time the president of our country approved the inclusion of the Yurovichi Monastery in the investment program. We hope that the restoration work on the monastery will continue and that the shrine of the Gomel land will shine in all its glory," he said.

The Metropolitan expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the restoration of this magnificent cathedral. "May this day also serve as an inspiration for us to thank God, fulfill His commandments in our daily lives, and be inspired toward all that is good and beneficial,” Metropolitan Veniamin noted.
