MOSCOW, 14 March (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko is convinced that Vladimir Zelensky will not ask for political asylum in Belarus. The head of state made the relevant statement in an interview with Olga Skabeyeva, a TV presenter of the TV channel Rossiya 1, BelTA has learned.
The head of state said: “No, he will not ask me for it. There are no manors or countryside houses of his in Belarus. They are in the French Riviera, in England. They say there are castles and the rest. He will go there. They are already settled over there. He will not come here.”
The interviewer also asked Aleksandr Lukashenko about his attitude to Vladimir Zelensky. The president had referred to the Ukrainian president in different ways: Volodya [informal for Vladimir] and lice. “Well, Volodya was like a son to me. But he acted like a lice,” the head of state noted. “So, what should I call him? Well, it may have been ill-mannered of me but it was an apt description. People shouldn’t act like this. Otherwise, what bad things can I say about him if we were on good terms? To my best understanding of the world I gave him my advice. Well, you can see how he listened to me. If he had listened, the situation would have been different.”
During the interview Aleksandr Lukashenko reminded that even before Russia’s special military operation Ukraine had effectively launched an economic war against Belarus: “After all, they enforced sanctions against us across the board. Neither Americans nor Europeans had enforced them yet. They [Ukraine] started bombing us. Well, partially Russians, too.”
