Presidents of Belarus, Kazakhstan to discuss sale of package of shares in Gomselmash company

MINSK, 23 October (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko intends to discuss the sale of a major package of shares in the Belarusian agricultural machinery company Gomselmash with Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The Belarusian head of state mentioned the plans in an interview with the Kazakh national television news agency Khabar, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko is convinced that the time of simple trade between the two countries is over. “It is necessary to move on to advanced manufacturing cooperation,” the president believes.

As an example he mentioned the Belarusian agricultural machinery manufacturer OAO Gomselmash. Kazakhstan is invited to become a shareholder in the company. The initiative has been backed by Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. “He is already interested in the project. We are going to discuss it. If Gomselmash starts making Belarusian-Kazakh machines, who will suffer a loss? No one. We will only benefit from it,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The head of state noted that the popularity of Belarusian machines, vehicles, and equipment is on the rise in a number of countries, including in Kazakhstan. “You are already fed up with imports, with German and American ones. Everyone is fed up in the post-Soviet space and now ask for Belarusian products,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.
