MINSK, 24 February (BelTA) – When the USA and the West as a whole imposed sanctions, they left no alternative for Belarus, President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a special meeting with the military on 24 February, BelTA has learned.
“Let's be frank: did NATO, America and the West leave us an alternative? They have recently passed the seventh or umpteenth round of sanctions. A week ago Ukraine banned the transit of our potash by its rail though no one pushed it to do it and they made money on it. Who asked Ukraine to do it? No one. Previously they had closed their skies. Quite recently [they said]: We will not buy electricity from you. Okay, as you wish, we are better off without you,” the head of state said. Commenting on the decision of the Ukrainian authorities to stop buying Belarusian electricity, Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “They have really gone crazy.”
“Are they also going to stop buying diesel fuel and gasoline? They buy 90% of this fuel from Russia and Belarus. Let them do it,” the head of state said ironically.
Aleksandr Lukashenko also drew attention to recent reports about foreign bank accounts of the political leadership of Ukraine: “These reports provide details about their bank accounts and the amount of money they have accumulated and taken out. Ordinary people are getting poorer while they are lining their pockets. That said, they want Ukrainian people to go and die for them!”
