MINSK, 2 July (BelTA) – The Western descendents of the Nazis have embarked on a new 'crusade', Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a solemn assembly held in the Palace of the Republic on 2 July in anticipation of Independence Day, BelTA has learned.
“Eighty years have passed, but we still shudder as we hear the words 'occupation', 'genocide', 'punitive operations', 'death camps', 'ghetto'. We are terrified as we look at the faces of survivors. Photos and newsreels from those years keep this memory alive but cause pain. Behind every scene there is a story of our families. Does the West need this truth? It does not. The descendents of those who capitulated are calling the shots now. These people carry on this bloodline and these ideas. This story did not end for them in 1945. I will tell you more, a new 'crusade' has begun,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.
“They think again that they can cultivate Nazism somewhere far from their own home and keep this monster on a short leash. They have not learned that this beast is uncontrollable. It will go wild, but it will come back to bite them, at their own home,” the president noted.
According to him, the world is again teetering on the brink of another global catastrophe. “What have we done wrong? Didn't we, the descendents of the victors, act appropriately and with dignity? Did we make anyone build memorials to our heroes in Poland? This was done by the Polish people. People who knew and saw how many Soviet soldiers were killed liberating Warsaw. More than half a million were a few steps away from victory. We remember them,” the head of state remarked.
“Didn't we offer friendship to all the countries of the Axis Powers putting peaceful life and good neighborliness above the pain inflicted on us then? For many decades, on every memorable date of that terrible war, we carefully selected our words so as not to offend the national feelings of the Germans, Austrians, Czechs, Romanians, our Balts and even our Ukrainian brothers. We referred to the executioners who wreaked havoc on the Belarusian land as people without nationality and citizenship. And what did we end up with? They are redefining the outcomes... Deranged,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.
