Lukashenko wants things straightened out at Belarusian universities

MINSK, 29 July (BelTA) – It is essential to straighten things out at educational institutions, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said when appointing new rectors of universities on 29 July, BelTA has learned.

“We will sort things out at universities, it is a very serious issue,” the head of state said. “Many rectors left their posts, and the biggest problem was that they became rectors and forgot that they were responsible for thousands of young people, for the future of our country. Students are the future elite of our society. We also saw the result last year.”

The Belarusian state is doing its best to support education and students, the president stressed. He believes that these efforts deserve mutual respect and appreciation from students.

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, rectors should first of all prioritize the work with students. “Management and organization of processes are the main priorities,” he said. “If rectors are doing their job well, everything will be fine at their universities. First of all, I want you to maintain good order at universities. Please let your future students know that this is their country.”

“The same is relevant for enterprises, other institutions and organizations. Workers are there, students are here. You should guide them as a leader. If you fail, you are the one to blame,” the president said.

Speaking about the staff of universities where the new rectors will work, the head of state reiterated that no immediate personnel reshuffle is needed. People should be given an opportunity to show their worth. “You come to the new team, to the new enterprise. Sort things out, start with deputy directors, give them a chance. If they are traitors, they must be fired. They will show their true colors. Do not repeat my mistakes: I used to forgive many things to many people, and then they revealed their true colors,” the Belarusian leader said. “The year 2020 was a litmus paper for all of us.”
