Lukashenko urges to  make long-term plans, invest in development

MINSK, 14 February (BelTA) – It is necessary to make long-term plans and invest in development, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting to discuss the development of the domestic microelectronics industry on 14 February, BelTA has learned.

“Today, the world needs billions of chips, microcircuits, transistors. But the competition on this market is cutting-throat. No one will give up their niche  without a fight. Competition will only get tougher. We are able to compete on this market, which is a no small feat of ours. Therefore, it is necessary to have a long-term vision and invest in development,” the head of state emphasized.

The president noted that this is done at Integral, but he wants to see all enterprises following this principle in their work. “If you don't make long-term plans, you will not be able to go on for a long time. Enterprises need to carry out continuous modernization, introduce the latest technologies, and invest in personnel. We simply have to find money for this. The government will do everything to do this,” the Belarusian leader said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko asked how the work on personnel training and retaining   is proceeding, how employers interact with universities, whether there are any problems and whether assistance is needed in addressing them.

“As far as this industry is concerned, we need to focus on the products that will be relevant tomorrow. And money should be invested in what we know how to do. And, as I say, we need two or three greenfield projects. In other words, we need to go broader and deeper ,” the head of state remarked.

He cited the construction of a nuclear power plant in Belarus as a case in point. The country had never produced nuclear energy before. “This is a completely new field for us. And today we run this nuclear power plant on our own, and we no longer need personnel from other countries to help us operate it. And this was a huge problem before. Moreover, we already help others build nuclear power plants. We can build a nuclear power plant on our own if the necessary infrastructure and materials are provided by Russia or other countries. If we decide to build a second plant, we will definitely be able to accomplish it on our own, without any help from other countries. This is roughly our plan,” the head of state said.

“This is how we are gradually developing our competencies in this industry. We   need to improve them. Moreover, everything that we produce today is in demand - from food products to integrated circuits,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
