Lukashenko unveils plans to visit China, meet with Xi Jinping

MINSK, 21 August (BelTA) – At a conference on 21 August to discuss missile production, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko unveiled plans to visit China soon and meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping, BelTA has learned.

Reflecting on the relevance of the meeting, which is to determine the development paths for Belarus’ missile engineering industry, taking into account the forms and methods of contemporary warfare, the president drew attention to another significant aspect.

“This is also important in view of my upcoming visit to the People’s Republic of China and meeting with President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping (we are planning such a meeting). Why? Because we closely coordinated the launch and development of our rocket production with the Chinese defense industry, and now we maintain contacts,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.

A reminder, Chinese President Xi Jinping invited Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit and a parade in Beijing, which will take place in late August - early September.

“We will host the SCO summit in Tianjin in late August, followed by a parade on 3 September to commemorate the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War. You have my sincere invitation, and it would be a pleasure to see you there,” the Chinese leader said at a meeting with his Belarusian counterpart in June of this year.

A large-scale parade, in which the Chinese army will showcase its military hardware in service, as well as new advanced weapons, including hypersonic missiles, tanks, and unmanned systems, will be held on 3 September. The ceremonial event will mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Several days before the military parade, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit will be held in Tianjin. The event is scheduled to take place from 31 August to 1 September.
