MINSK OBLAST, 7 January (BelTA) - Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko will visit the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God The Milk-Giver in the village of Okolitsa, Minsk District on Orthodox Christmas, BelTA has learned.
Traditionally, the head of state will light a Christmas candle in the church and speak with parishioners and clergy.
The church in Okolitsa was founded in 2017. The church is named in honor of the Icon of the Mother of God The Milk-Giver, whose history dates back to the 16th century. The church’s design is characterized by features of ancient Russian architecture.
Earlier, the head of state extended Christmas greetings to Orthodox Christians. In his address, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that Christmas traditions form an integral part of Belarus’ richest cultural and spiritual heritage, strengthen the connection between generations, and help build the country’s future on the principles of peace and harmony.
