Lukashenko to study Khatyn Memorial Complex refurbishment project

MINSK, 23 September (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko will study progress to renovate the Khatyn Memorial Complex, BelTA informs.

The head of state will review the construction of a museum, the restoration of granite slabs of the Last Way road, the Cemetery of Villages and Trees of Life memorials, and the construction of the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin.

In May the president issued a decree to grant the refurbishment project the status of the All-Belarus Youth Construction Project after such an initiative was put forward by representatives of the BRSM Youth Union during the President's Address to the Belarusian people and the National Assembly in January 2022.

The head of state gave an instruction to build a new museum in Khatyn and complete all the necessary restoration works by the 80th anniversary of the Khatyn tragedy which will be marked on 22 March 2023. “It will be 80 years next year. Everything must be brought into shape from Minsk to Khatyn starting with the roads. All the construction projects [in the memorial complex] have to be finished by this time,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
