MOSCOW, 25 September (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed gratitude to IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi for his stance on the Belarusian nuclear power plant as he spoke at the international forum World Atomic Week in Moscow on 25 September, BelTA has learned.
“I’d like to thank you, Mr. Grossi, for being a real, decent man. You remember when our plant was under heavy political pressure: they said we were building in the wrong place, building the wrong project, the Americans were against it, and the Europeans were furious. You visited the plant many times and openly told journalists: ‘Don’t attack Belarus. They are building with the Russians the most advanced plant, there are no issues.’” the head of state said.

“If you set any task before us, we always addressed them. You did a great job. You never let us down with the Russians or forced us to justify ourselves. You have been sincere and decent. Thank you very much for everything you have done,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
The president also voiced support for the idea that if Rafael Grossi were to seek a leadership position at the United Nations, his candidacy would be backed.
