MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko suggested settling disagreements with Russia in the production of passenger cars as he met with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov in Minsk on 28 October, BelTA has learned.
“We once opened a new era in the production of cars in Belarus. This is also a very important issue. You in Russia understand this business more than anyone else. I wish we could overcome those misunderstandings (some disagreements, one could even say) in connection with import substitution of passenger cars and produce Belarusian and Russian cars in our joint market,” the president said.
“It is no secret that we have to protect our market. To avoid going from bad to worse, as I often say. Our colleagues understand this perfectly well. The ways of cooperation with such states have been outlined. We need to avoid the situation with Western companies leaving the market from repeating. They abandoned everything. Well, they decided to leave and let it be so. We still have competencies and highly-qualified specialists. We have enough raw materials and resources. We will produce and replace their goods with our own,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
