MINSK, 17 February (BelTA) - In the work of the government, the speed of implementing all planned measures and projects is crucial, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said while receiving the government’s report for 2025 on 17 February, BelTA has learned.
The head of state addressed the issue of the government’s own quality of work. “You need to visit the regions and enterprises more often, communicate with specialists, rather than go out for brief information events, ceremonial meetings, and lunches. Otherwise, as you are often criticized, you will finally turn into a ‘post office’ for forwarding documents,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The president added that the strategic areas for the country’s development were determined by the Belarusian People’s Congress. “A new five-year plan has begun, and I remind you that now the government will report annually to the delegates of the Congress. And no one will gloss over anything there. On the contrary, the Belarus President Administration should spur the delegates to take the floor and clearly point out the government’s shortcomings. To avoid failure right at the start, the speed of implementing all planned measures and projects is crucial,” he emphasized.
At the same time, the head of state said that the government is drowning in bureaucracy and is guilty of a lack of promptness. “Almost all presidential decrees are being returned for revision. Just recall your years-long fussing with crisis managers, the transfer of individual entrepreneurs to organizations, or the distribution of rental housing. By the way, all these issues must be resolved in the first half of the year,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
“Another ‘sin’ of the government is the desire to obscure, hide, or talk away a problem. It’s not for nothing that I told you at the beginning: this is a frank conversation. There’s no need to be afraid that tomorrow the self-exiled opposition will start criticizing us over various issues that we see or have uncovered,” the president said. “We stopped caring about their criticism long ago. They have no occupation other than eavesdropping and then blathering for a week until we speak again. What matters is our citizens’ trust that the authorities recognize the problem.

As an example of this desire to obscure a problem, Aleksandr Lukashenko cited the staffing of the agro-industrial complex, an issue discussed at many meetings. “What does the government write based on last year’s results: staffing level for livestock specialists is 87%, for veterinarians is 80%. When I got this figure, I was surprised. Almost 100% for livestock specialists and veterinarians. So why is the livestock dying? And they suggest removing this task from control as completed in 2025! Who are you helping with such reports?” the Belarusian leader posed a rhetorical question.
