MINSK, 29 August (BelTA) – The Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states account for about 75% of Belarus’ trade, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said in an interview with China Media Group, BelTA has learned.
When asked by a journalist to assess Belarus’ membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the president responded with strong approval.
“In my view, 75% of our trade is with the SCO, and we export 85% of our goods to its member states. That’s virtually all of our trade. So, what could be wrong with that? It’s fantastic,” the Belarusian leader said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko described the SCO member nations as a close-knit family that discusses both challenges and opportunities. He acknowledged that Belarus’ population is far smaller than that of fellow SCO giants like China and India.
