Lukashenko reaffirms commitment to forging top-level strategic relations with China

MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has reaffirmed the commitment to forge top-level strategic relations with China at a meeting to discuss cooperation with China on 27 January, BelTA has learned.
“The decision to forge top-level strategic relations with China is not subject to revision. On the contrary, we will invest resources, time, and attention in strengthening our cooperation. We have all the reserves for this,” the Belarusian leader stated. “China is a serious and long-term partner. We will cooperate with China always, for as long as our country exists as an independent and sovereign state. I am confident that we will remain independent and sovereign forever as well.”
The head of state noted that people in Belarus now have a different perception of China than before. “You can find a BelGee car in almost every Belarusian neighborhood these days. And it turned out to be quite a decent vehicle. Minsk is now home to world-class sports facilities, and this is a gift from our true friends. Learning Chinese and studying in China is becoming standard for our progressive youth,” Aleksandr Lukashenko cited a number of examples.

The president also stated that expanding air routes (to Hainan, Shanghai, Urumqi) will quickly restore tourist flows. “By the way, this is one of the government's tasks and a government promise, that we will make significant progress here, from almost 2% to nearly 5% of GDP,” he said.

The head of state also pointed out that China is Belarus’ second-largest trade partner.
