Lukashenko praises National Bank’s work during difficult times

MINSK, 27 March (BelTA) - The National Bank did not fail us in difficult times, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he appointed Aleksandr Yegorov to the post of First Deputy Chairman of the Board of the National Bank on 27 March, BelTA has learned.

“The National Bank did a good job. In difficult times they did not fail us. Whatever one might think but they have done a lot for the country. That's why I urged you not to lose sight of Kallaur [Pavel Kallaur, ex-chairman of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus]. Reach out to him when needed. Whether you take his advice or not is up to you. But he does have his point of view; he is a good banker,” the Belarusian leader said.

“Time goes and we are bringing a new generation to power as I promised,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.

The head of state noted that the National Bank has a lot of work to do. “I will meet with you in the near future, when you and Golovchenko [chairman of the National Bank] are ready for it. We'll invite top managers, not only the board but heads of departments and so on. It is up to you who to invite. I want them to understand that it was not your decision to reshuffle things the central bank. Naturally, they need to step up too,” he said.
