Lukashenko: Judges are the most constrained people

MINSK, 9 June (BelTA) – Judges are the most constrained people due to the legal framework in which they operate, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during a meeting with Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation  Igor Krasnov in Minsk on 9 June, BelTA has learned.

“They say that this branch of power [the judiciary] is independent. But the most constrained people are judges. They are bound by the law. There is no moving left or right. The boundaries set by the law are the ones within which judges must act, including supreme courts,” the head of state said.
“We have lived this way for a long time. I think you, as a lawyer, understand even better than I do that you cannot prescribe everything in the law. In fact, no law can prescribe everything. Life is far more diverse. That is why judges must have a certain level of experience and judge fairly, as people say,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
