PINSK DISTRICT, 4 October (BelTA) – If Poland invades Ukraine, Belarus will support the Ukrainians, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during his meeting with the residents of Parokhonsk agro-town on 4 October, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out that Poland has its own interests in Ukraine. This manifests itself in the attitude of Polish elites to Ukraine. The main issue between the countries currently is the massacre in Volyn – the mass killing of Poles by the Ukrainian Insurgent Army during the Great Patriotic War.
"Many things happened during the war... The Ukrainians burned Khatyn in our country. It was a nightmare what they did in in the Pripyat region on the orders of fascists. Are we going to dredge up the past our entire lives?" the president asked rhetorically.
According to him, Poland's claims are based on the desire to grab the western part of Ukraine. "Both western Belarus and western Ukraine. They want to dominate there. This is unacceptable for us. If the Poles invade Ukraine and try to seize its western territory, we will support the Ukrainians. We realize that we will be next," the Belarusian leader said.
