Lukashenko explains reasons for visiting Mozyr

MOZYR, 6 November (BelTA) – During a solemn ceremony held to open a bridge over the Pripyat River in the city of Mozyr, Gomel Oblast on 6 November, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko explained why he had chosen to come to Mozyr, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “I thought it would be wrong if I don’t come to this most beautiful center of our country, one of the key cities of our country, to our beautiful Mozyr. It is indeed a beautiful city of great importance for the economy of our country.” At the same time the president noted that a local large enterprise – Mozyr Oil Refinery – is not doing so well for now. “But I think the latest decisions that have been made will improve the economy of this city as well. Let’s see what dynamics it will produce. But the state has done everything for the refinery to do better,” he pointed out.

“Not to visit the city… Although there were plenty of proposals. I turned down the first one right away. I couldn’t come to Mozyr then. Then I thought that it is necessary to give a wakeup call to Polesie region residents just like in Vitebsk Oblast [where a major conference on developing the region took place on 24 October]. It was necessary to come to Mozyr as well,” the president explained.
