MINSK, 22 August (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko explained his ability to make accurate political forecasts as he spoke to the media on 22 August, BelTA has learned.
Three weeks before the Russia-USA summit in Alaska, Aleksandr Lukashenko stated that Moscow was ready for negotiations. The forecast proved accurate: the talks did indeed take place. The president was asked how he manages to make such predictions.
“It is about being deeply immersed in the matter. If you are well-aware of it, you can reason on the topic and have your own opinion. But it is just an opinion. However, without false modesty, it is also, to some extent, experience,” the Belarusian leader replied.
The president cited an example. Once the special military operation was launched, Aleksandr Lukashenko spoke with Vladimir Zelensky by telephone, and sometime later Belarus hosted negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian delegations. The head of state believes that had the peace talks been successful at an early stage, Ukraine's territorial losses would have been smaller.
“So, this is about being well-versed in the subject (and, as I say, it is probably the Lord advised)... This is what I base it on. Besides, I know the position of the president of Russia,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added. “He has suggested and continues to suggest [negotiations]. Now this opportunity must be seized, because [Vladimir Zelensky] will lose all of Ukraine.”
