Lukashenko conveys warm wishes to Pope Francis, expresses hope for meeting

MINSK, 10 February (BelTA) - Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko conveyed warm wishes to Pope Francis and expressed his hope for a meeting as he met with representatives of religious denominations in Minsk on 10 February, BelTA learned.
“I have great respect for the Pope. Please send him my very best regards. This is a truly strong man. A man who doesn't just live and serve. He knows how to say what he thinks to the face of representatives of all strata of the population,” Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized.

“Our ideas and views do not diverge. We know it - and he knows it, and I know it. We talked about it,” the president said. “Please convey our kindest and warmest wishes to him.”

The head of state also noted: “I think that the time will come and we will definitely meet with the Pope.

“I would like him to represent all strata of the population, all countries, both very rich countries that are trying to monopolize the world and poorer countries that do not play such a gigantic role in current affairs,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
