MINSK, 26 October (BelTA) - Russia has no need to involve a third party in the conflict in Ukraine, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said in an interview with the Central Television show on the NTV channel on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, BelTA has learned.
The head of state was asked to comment on the claims that North Korea had sent troops to fight alongside Russia in Ukraine. The president was repeatedly asked this question in Kazan.
“I asked (maybe as a joke) my good friend [Turkish President Recep] Erdogan: “Are you [NATO] hyping this narrative in order to find a reason to deploy NATO troops to Ukraine?” Aleksandr Lukashenko said about his recent conversation with the Turkish leader.
However, the Belarusian head of state did not have time to tell what Recep Tayyip Erdogan answered to this question and how the conversation between the two leaders ended as the journalist took the conversation in a different direction.
The Belarusian president stressed that he does not believe in the presence of the North Korean military in Ukraine, especially since no one has provided any evidence. Russia does not need to involve a third party in the conflict, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.
"This may be an escalation of the conflict (since Russia gets help from other countries, then NATO may think of deploying its contingents to finish off Russia, as they planned). I think that, as you said, this is a fake story which has been planted to create a pretext for some action. Perhaps to send their units or for permission to strike deep into Russia (Ukraine has a big portfolio of wishes)," the head of state suggested.
