Lukashenko: Belarus’ priority is applied research

MINSK, 31 January (BelTA) - Belarus prioritizes applied research in areas that are in demand by the economy, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a ceremony to award Doctor of Science diplomas and professor certificates to academic, research and teaching staff on 31 January, BelTA has learned.

"Soon we will hold a meeting with the scientific community at the National Academy of Sciences to discuss the issues that the state and science face nowadays. But I would like to make my position clear once again. Our priority is applied research in areas where we have strong competencies and which are in demand by the economy and life itself. We will always provide funding for these tasks and create the most favorable conditions for scientists," the Belarusian leader said.

The head of state added that the current ceremony recognizes the merits of each of its participants and important successes and achievements for the country. "They demonstrate the potential and capabilities of our people, the strength of their intellect," the president stressed. “I am truly grateful for your outstanding creative work, your commitment to your passion, which you devote your life to. I am convinced that you will do a lot for Belarus. I hope you can do a lot for us.”
