Lukashenko: Belarus is ready to boost cooperation with Khabarovsk Krai

MINSK, 21 July (BelTA) - Belarus is ready to boost the cooperation with Khabarovsk Krai of Russia, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with Governor of Khabarovsk Krai Vyacheslav Shport in Minsk on 21 July, BelTA has learned.

"Your region is going through difficult times in the wake of the floods last year. It will be hard to overcome these nature-caused hardships. Please rest assured that we will do our best to support you,” said Alexander Lukashenko.

The President noted that in modern times the geographical distance is not an obstacle to cooperation. However, this year the bilateral trade between Belarus and Khabarovsk Krai has decreased. "But everything is in our hands. We have enough time to achieve last year's level and exceed it," stressed the head of state. "I think we will take some steps in this direction," Alexander Lukashenko said.

According to him, Khabarovsk Krai annually imports $1 billion worth of products. But the share of Belarusian goods is only about 1%. This is a very low figure. "I think that in the near future we must seriously analyze the processes related to the trade with Khabarovsk Krai and make our worthy contribution to the development of this region, to the overcoming of the consequences of the floods that happened last year," said the President of Belarus

Alexander Lukashenko assured that he is ready to consider any offers and the issues of the development of bilateral ties. "We know each other's capabilities. We share a mutual interest in each other. Out economies are complementary, and this is the basis of cooperation,” Alexander Lukashenko noted.

In turn, Vyacheslav Shport said that the Khabarovsk delegation brought their proposals and jointly with the Belarusian government will consider the plan of action for the next three years to strengthen cooperation with a view to raising it to a higher quality level. The governor stressed that Khabarovsk Krai is the political, industrial and cultural center of the Far East and has a diversified economy. There are great opportunities for the development of cooperation between Belarus and Khabarovsk Krai, the Governor said.

For example, the region has well-developed aviation, steel and shipbuilding industries, in addition to agriculture, fishing and gold mining. Among the priorities of the cooperation with Belarus the Khabarovsk Krai Governor called agricultural machinery. For example, Khabarovsk Krai intends to expand the maintenance network of farm machines. The head of the Russian region also sees great potential in the use of Belarusian expertise in the agro-industrial sector. Nowadays Khabarovsk companies purchase Belarusian milk powder.
During the visit the delegation of Khabarovsk Krai to Minsk will focus on the ways of expanding the bilateral cooperation in all areas.
