MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) - Any attempts to intimidate and impose foreign will on the former Soviet countries will be doomed, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at an official reception to mark the Day of the Fatherland Defenders and the Armed Forces of Belarus, BelTA has learned.
"Revanchists in the West should remember that the brotherhood and invincibility of the Soviet people did not fade into history together with the collapse of a great country. Any attempts to intimidate and impose foreign will on us will be doomed," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
The president said that he addresses these words to those who are serving overseas curators, building up a foreign military presence along the Belarusian borders. "First of all, to the western neighbors," he said.
"The Polish and Baltic political elites have opted for unprecedented militarization of their states and increasing military resources," Aleksandr Lukashenko said. "Unceremonious interference in our internal affairs, militant rhetoric and sanctions, and border provocations have become the norm of their aggressive policy."
In his words, this militarization began under former U.S. President Donald Trump. With the arrival of his antipode, Joe Biden, nothing has changed. The United States began to actively increase its military contingent to Europe. “They completed their mission in Afghanistan and are looking for another job. After all, these people, who left Afghanistan, know nothing but fight. They are not needed at home, they can be used somewhere else to solve global problems,” said the head of state.
Against this backdrop the Western coalition has launched a large-scale information campaign to prepare public opinion for the inevitability of war in the region, Aleksandr Lukashenko added. “Let those who dream about the inevitability of a hot conflict know that they will never catch us unaware again. Since the last tragic lesson of the previous century, we have been steadily strengthening our defense capabilities,” the president stressed.
