MINSK, 1 September (BelTA) – Belarus and Vietnam are time-tested friends and partners, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko said as he met with President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Luong Cuong, BelTA has learned.

Igor Sergeyenko noted that in today’s climate of economic and information pressure, sovereign nations that pursue independent policies for their citizens’ benefit must rely on trusted partners more than ever. “For time-tested friends like Belarus and Vietnam, this trust and mutual understanding are crucial. The potential of the bilateral relations is enormous. We are committed to expanding our mutually beneficial cooperation through stronger ties and joint projects,” he said.

The speaker stressed that Belarus is ready to increase exports of industrial products, foodstuffs, agricultural produce and pharmaceuticals to Vietnam and to create joint ventures. “In turn, we are interested in importing long-known Vietnamese goods, such as rubber, rice, coffee, clothing, footwear, electronics,” the chairman of the House of Representatives noted.

The free trade agreement between the EAEU countries and Vietnam, which turned 10 this year, is viewed as an important tool for expanding supplies.

“We are committed to the earliest possible signing of roadmaps for 2025-2027 and 2026-2030, which will cover exhaustively the strategic objectives of bilateral cooperation,” the speaker noted.

Igor Sergeyenko drew attention to the fact that during the negotiations between General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam and the leadership of Belarus, the project to jointly assemble MAZ vehicles in Vietnam under the national brand, as well as its re-export to third countries, was identified as a priority. “I am convinced that a positive decision from the Vietnamese leadership on this initiative and on expanding the supply of finished products would be mutually beneficial,” Igor Sergeyenko stated. “We are also working on a project to establish a BELARUS tractor assembly plant in Vietnam, with a licensing agreement between our companies slated for signing soon,” he said.

Belarus is interested in supplying heavy-duty BelAZ mining trucks to Vietnam, the chairman of the House of Representatives noted.

The speaker expressed hope for enhanced inter-regional cooperation, proposing the development of existing ties and the establishment of new ones through joint projects in business and culture, as well as by promoting tourist exchange.

The chairman of the House of Representatives assured that Belarusian legislators will fully support any mutually beneficial initiatives. “Their successful implementation will contribute to sustainable socio-economic development of Belarus and Vietnam and the prosperity of our countries,” Igor Sergeyenko added.

On the instructions of the president, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko is on a visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to participate in the solemn events on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and Independence Day. The Belarusian delegation includes representatives of BelAZ (the managing company of BelAZ Holding Company), Belshina, and MTZ.

The economic program of the visit features a meeting with the leadership of Lao Cai Province, the participation in ceremonies for the handover of a batch of BelAZ haul trucks and the signing of bilateral documents on supplies of Belarusian and Vietnamese products. A licensing agreement on the establishment of a joint tractor assembly production facility in Vietnam will be signed in Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnam will mark the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and Independence Day on 2 September with a military parade and a theatrical procession in Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, where President Ho Chi Minh proclaimed the country’s independence in 1945.
