MINSK, 31 October (BelTA) – The strengthening of multipolarity promotes democratization of international relations, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said as he spoke at the 2nd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security on 31 October, BelTA has learned.
He thanked Belarus for the invitation to address the prestigious conference in Minsk. He noted that the Belarusian president “made a very informative opening speech” at the conference."I think that many of the ideas he voiced will help us develop recommendations following this conference," the Russian foreign minister said.
Sergey Lavrov stated that the balance of power in the world has changed. "The formation of a multipolar world order has been the main tendency for years. The changes taking place in the world are a natural irreversible process. It is connected with changes in the balance of world power, strengthening of new non-Western centers of economic growth and influence. Certainly, this tendency contributes to the democratization of international relations, in which there should be no hegemony of any country," the minister said.
He emphasized that international relations must respect the principles of the UN Charter, not selectively, but in their entirety and interrelation.
In this regard, Sergey Lavrov recalled the initiative of Russian President Vladimir Putin to form the Greater Eurasian Partnership, the largest possible integration group aimed at liberalizing trade and investment ties, implementing cross-border infrastructure projects, developing the transport and logistics network, and coordinating integration processes. This would contribute to building an equal and indivisible security architecture in Eurasia.

Sergey Lavrov emphasized that the partnership does not exclude the involvement of countries of western Eurasia, but only on the basis of equal rights and avoiding hostile bloc policy and neocolonialism.
