MP: BRICS is able to challenge West’s dominance in international relations

MINSK, 8 April (BelTA) - Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Sergei Rachkov took part in a meeting of the Standing Committee on UN Affairs as part of the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, BelTA learned from the press service of the House of Representatives.

Sergei Rachkov made a report on “The Growing Role of BRICS in International Relations: What Implications for the UN?”

“We consider BRICS as an authoritative international platform that unites the efforts of the global majority aimed at the formation of true multipolarity, equality and inclusiveness in international relations, the search for effective ways to solve pressing problems,” Sergei Rachkov said.

Joining the BRICS was Belarus’ well-considered and conscious foreign policy move, the MP said. It is with BRICS that many countries, including Belarus, pin their hopes for the transformation of the international system in the direction of a fair multipolar world order.

“As Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said in his speech at the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, BRICS is a community of the future. In terms of its potential, it can bring the end of the history of dominance of the collective West, which proved incapable of bearing responsibility for the civilized development of international relations. We see that the increasing economic influence of the BRICS may lead to a change in the traditional balance of power in international politics,” said Sergei Rachkov.

“The BRICS countries representing developing economies are able to challenge the dominance of Western countries in international relations, which can lead to a more diverse and balanced representation of interests in the global arena,” the MP emphasized.

At the plenary session of the Tenth BRICS Parliamentary Forum in the expanded format, the Belarusian delegation proposed to hold a parliamentary summit on security in the BRICS+ format and emphasized the fundamental need to strengthen the parliamentary dimension of BRICS, ensure convergence of the legal systems of the member states and create conditions for comprehensive integration based on the decisions and recommendations adopted.
