MINSK, 4 December (BelTA) – The International Day against Unilateral Coercive Measures was observed for the first time on 4 December, BelTA reports citing the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This day was proclaimed in June 2025 by the UN General Assembly resolution titled “International Day against Unilateral Coercive Measures.” The document, prepared on the initiative of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations with the active participation of the Republic of Belarus, was adopted with the support of 116 UN member states.
The establishment of this international day is expected to strengthen international cooperation and solidarity among states in opposing unilateral coercive measures that are inconsistent with international law and the UN Charter. It will also complement stakeholders’ efforts to raise global awareness of the negative impacts and numerous challenges caused by the imposition of such measures.
The annual observance of this day, along with dedicated discussions at the UN General Assembly, will help focus the international community’s attention on the urgent need to abandon unilateral coercive measures, which hinder the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, create barriers to trade, and undermine food security.
