
MINSK, 6 May (BelTA) - The activities of Belarus in BRICS is focused on sustainable economic development, Belarusian First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lukashevich said in an interview with the Brazilian publication O Mundo Diplomatico, BelTA has learned.
He emphasized that Belarus is currently cooperating with BRICS, taking advantage of the opportunities offered by the status of a partner state of this grouping. This includes, in particular, permanent participation in BRICS summits and meetings of foreign ministers.
“In the future, we hope that Belarus will become a full member of the association. This will significantly expand opportunities for cooperation and allow us to contribute to the activities of BRICS. Belarus is ready to actively work in all areas: trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian, parliamentary and security. Our activities in BRICS will be oriented towards sustainable economic development, with a view to preserving and enhancing human potential, ensuring high social standards and a decent quality of life, through the introduction of innovations and the latest technologies,” the diplomat said.
According to Sergei Lukashevich, Belarus’ priority within BRICS will be the strengthening of political and security cooperation based on the principles of mutual respect, indivisible security and guarantees of the country’s development without confrontation. “This is a prerequisite for building a fair multipolar system of international relations,” he stressed.
