MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) – It is shame that no representatives of the Polish government are attending the conference in Minsk, Polish writer, analyst and publicist Tomasz Gryguć told BelTA on the sidelines of the 3rd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security on 28 October.
“Maria Zakharova [the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry] recently said that Europeans should start thinking about grassroots people's diplomacy. Our presence here represents such grassroots Polish diplomacy, demonstrating that Poles want good relations with Belarus,” he said.

The analyst noted that in Poland, there is a clear understanding of the situation in the region and who is responsible for what. “We support good relations with China, the Russian Federation, and Belarus. This conference is an excellent platform to exchange views with experts and, as always, listen to outstanding speeches by Aleksandr Lukashenko, Sergey Lavrov, and the Hungarian minister of foreign affairs,” he said.
“You know, as Poles, we feel ashamed that the Polish president, the Polish prime minister, and the Polish foreign minister are not present at this conference. But leave them be. They are not pursuing a Polish sovereign policy. However, we Poles have the right and the desire to be here. We represent that part of the Polish people who wish for good, friendly relations with Belarus,” Tomasz Gryguć said.
He mentioned that he came to Minsk with his colleagues- friends from Warsaw to express the views of thoughtful, free-minded Poles.

Tomasz Gryguć said that it took them 24 hours to travel from Warsaw to Belarus because the Lithuanians had closed the Belarusian-Lithuanian border. They had to take detours. “We arrived here at 6 in the morning and went straight to the conference because we want to be here with our brothers, friends, and neighbors,” he noted.
Tomasz Gryguć is convinced that Poland must rise from its knees and begin pursuing a sovereign policy. “If Poles themselves don’t do this, there will be no good relations between Poland and Belarus, or Poland and Russia. Because Poland's current foreign policy is not Polish policy. It's American policy,” he said.
