Expanding inter-party ties, engagement within BRICS. Belarus, Brazil strengthen cooperation

MINSK, 8 February (BelTA) - At the invitation of the Brazilian Workers' Party, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Federative Republic of Brazil Andrei Andreev took part in the events held in the State of Bahia to mark the anniversary of the founding of this political movement, BelTA learned from the Belarusian diplomatic mission.

The Brazilian Workers' Party was founded in 1980 by the current Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and his supporters. The head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission held a meeting with Secretary of International Relations of the Workers' Party Humberto Costa, who is also a member of the Commission on Foreign Relations and National Defense of the Federal Senate of Brazil and with representatives of the party's international relations secretariat. The parties discussed the current international situation and specific areas of bilateral political cooperation.

The Ambassador particularly emphasized the political support expressed by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko for the Brazilian president during the upcoming 2026 election campaign.

The parties agreed to enhance cooperation between the Belarusian party Belaya Rus and the Workers' Party on a bilateral basis and within the framework of BRICS and to establish collaboration through the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus, the Belarusian Women's Union, and youth organizations.

The Belarusian Ambassador also participated in a roundtable discussion on the theme “Peace, Integration, and Sovereignty: A View on Latin America”. Following the discussion, potential areas for future Belarusian-Brazilian expert cooperation were explored.
