Eurasian Forum in Verona to discuss opportunities for synergy of East and West

VERONA, 27 October (BelTA) – The 14th Eurasian Economic Forum will bring together prominent politicians businessmen and public figures from many countries of Europe and Asia in Verona, Italy on 28-29 October, BelTA learned from the organizers.

The key speakers will feature: former Italy Prime Minister and former head of the European Commission Romano Prodi, ex-Chancellor of Germany, now head of the Board of Directors of Rosneft Gerhard Schroeder, former head of the Russian Government, now Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gazprom Viktor Zubkov, Member of the Board (Minister) for Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission Andrei Slepnev, Qatar's Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, India's Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri and other politicians and representatives of authorities of different countries. Big business will be represented by Rosneft Chief Executive Officer Igor Sechin, Novatek CEO Leonid Mikhelson, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology Viktor Vekselberg, Chief Executive Officer of BP Bernard Looney, Senior Vice President of ExxonMobil Neil Chapman, Deputy President of the Rothschild Foundation Paolo Scaroni.

"The event will be held in person, only a few speakers will connect via video link," the organizers said. Participants will discuss a wide range of practical topical issues in economy and finance, healthcare, environment, energy and technological innovations in the greater Eurasia space, united this year by the theme: “Eurasia on its Path to a New Geopolitical, Social, and Economic Order: Transition to a New, Human-Centered Economy”.

The forum will open with the special session “Structural Changes in the Economy and the Future of Energy”. The first day of the program will be devoted to energy transition, circular economy and the green economy. The second day will feature discussions on the impact of the pandemic on the banking and financial sector, technological innovation and the digital transition, and also the role of the pharmaceutical industry in the modern economy and debates on overcoming the neoliberal model.

“The Eurasian Economic Forum emphasizes the need to subordinate economic growth to the needs of society, the achievement of greater social equality and a development model that puts people at the center of attention. It is necessary to overcome the neoliberal economic model, to focus on an economy that takes into account the limited resources of the planet. These last two years have taught us that economic development, social and environmental wellbeing must go hand in hand. For two days in Verona, persons of great international authority will discuss how East and West can work together to overcome the current geopolitical and economic situation,” said President of the Conoscere Eurasia Association and Chairman of Banca Intesa Antonio Fallico.

The Eurasian Economic Forum in Verona is organized by the Conoscere Eurasia Association, the Roscongress Foundation and St Petersburg International Economic Forum.
