Dushanbe to host CIS IPA autumn session on 13-14 November

MINSK, 10 November (BelTA) – The autumn session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly (IPA) is scheduled for 13-14 November in Dushanbe, BelTA learned from the CIS Executive Committee.

This marks the first time the session will be held in the capital of Tajikistan. The event will bring together parliamentary delegations from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, alongside representatives from various partner organizations.

The autumn session will commence on 13 November with a meeting of the CIS IPA Council, comprising the heads of parliaments from the member states. Participants will be briefed on the outcomes of the CIS Heads of State Council meeting held on 10 October 2025, and the CIS Heads of Government Council meeting held on 29 September 2025.

The council’s agenda covers a range of topics, including the Republic of Tajikistan’s chairmanship in the CIS in 2025, the work of the CIS Human Rights Commission, and the awarding of the Chingiz Aitmatov Prize. The parliamentary leaders will also deliberate on the IPA’s work plan for 2026 and review the results of key events held this year. These events include the 11th edition of the Nevsky International Ecological Congress; the tenth edition of the Children of the Commonwealth international cultural and educational forum, hosted for the first time in Belarus; the second international forum “Sustainable Development of Mountain Territories”; and the Travel Hub Commonwealth tourism forum, both held in Russia’s Republic of Dagestan. The council will also receive briefings on the second international conference “Russian Language as a Basis for Integration Dialogue in the CIS” and the international scientific and educational congress “Intellectual Code of the Commonwealth”.

Additionally, the Council members will review the outcomes of the 25th meeting of the Youth Interparliamentary Assembly. Meetings of the IPA’s Permanent Commission on Legal Issues and the Permanent Commission on Political Issues and International Cooperation, are also scheduled for the same day.

The 59th plenary session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly will officially open on 14 November. Parliamentarians are set to review a series of documents, including model laws on pharmaceutical provision in CIS countries, on limiting greenhouse gas emissions, on creative industries, on territorial defense, and on the children’s rights commissioner. The session will also consider recommendations for identifying and recording crimes related to human trafficking within the Commonwealth.
