MINSK, 27 June (BelTA) - The EAEU remains a forum for dialogue and cooperation amid hostile environment, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez said at the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council summit in Minsk on 27 June, BelTA has learned.
Addressing the participants of the meeting, the president of Cuba noted that the event was held in beautiful and hospitable Minsk. The capital of Belarus during the Great Patriotic War was seriously affected by the brutal actions of the Nazi invaders. “Today, when we step on this land, we breathe its exploits, its heroism. These are the words of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, who visited Minsk in July 1972. The same feelings overwhelm us today,” said Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.
Minsk, with its touching museums dedicated to the memory of the victims of fascism, today reminds of the moral duty - the need to preserve historical memory and protect peace on the planet.
The Cuban president expressed concern about the security situation in the world. In this “hostile international context”, he said, the Eurasian Economic Union is taking on even greater importance. The EAEU crosses all national borders and remains a forum for dialogue and cooperation, which is essential for stability, development, prosperity and peace.

“Speaking about world peace, I realize that peace is sustainable only when there is a universal will to do so,” said Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.
The president of Cuba expressed sincere gratitude to Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko for the invitation to Minsk. Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez also thanked his Belarusian counterpart for the high level of organization of the EAEU events in the Belarusian capital.
“We are very pleased to note the steady consolidation and progress of the Eurasian Economic Union. It is an expression of a collective vision for the benefit of the economic and social development of the countries and peoples of the integration space. 11 December will mark five years since Cuba received observer status in the EAEU. Over the past five years, we have worked together to strengthen dialogue and interaction. Undoubtedly, it was a fruitful period, but there is still a huge potential and opportunities for expanding economic, financial and trade relations. I can confirm Cuba's firm aspiration to become an effective partner of the Union,” the Cuban president said.
Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez expressed his readiness to sign the cooperation plan for 2025-2030. According to him, the document should become an effective and practical mechanism for implementing plans for trade, investment and cooperation. The president of Cuba also expressed confidence that Cuba’s strategic and geographical position in the Caribbean and the trade agreements signed with almost all Latin American countries give a huge advantage in terms of tariffs.
The Cuban president also expressed gratitude and solidarity to the leaders of the EAEU countries for supporting the country, which is under an unprecedented economic and trade blockade. “Amid these challenges, the historical ties of friendship, mutual understanding and support of the countries of the organization are of great importance for the people and the government of Cuba,” he concluded.
