Confidence in timely signing of Belarus-Russia Union State programs

VERONA, 28 October (BelTA) – Belarus-Russian Union State programs will be signed on 4 November. The former state secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia Grigory Rapota mentioned it while talking to a BelTA reporter on the sidelines of the 14th Eurasian Economic Forum in Verona. As a member of the International Affairs Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Grigory Rapota takes care of integration in the post-Soviet space among other things.

When asked about the signing of the Union State programs, Grigory Rapota said: “According to my data, everything is heading in that direction unless something interferes. It has already been declared that they would be signed during the next session of the Supreme State Council, which is scheduled for 4 November.”

The Union State programs are designed to improve the legal framework of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, the Russian senator noted. Grigory Rapota confirmed that the documents contain purely economic matters and no politics. “If we take a close look at these 28 programs, they stipulate things like the development of concepts, the determination of prospects. They contain nothing resembling the resolution of the currency issue.”

When asked about the recent leaks that torpedo Belarusian-Russian integration processes, Grigory Rapota said: “Those, who stand against Belarusian-Russian relations, are looking for the foundation that supports this stance. They are building the framework for their ideology. I think the hot discussion about this topic is related exactly to the forthcoming Supreme State Council session.”

The 14th Eurasian Economic Forum is taking place in Verona, Italy on 28-29 October. Prominent politicians, businessmen, and public figures from many European and Asian countries have turned up for the forum.
