BRASLAV DISTRICT, 5 January (BelTA) – All members of the House of Representatives are working in their constituencies today, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko told journalists following a meeting with officials of Braslav District on 5 January. The meeting focused on the social and economic development program for the next five years, which was approved during the Belarusian People’s Congress, BelTA has learned.

“All MPs are working in their constituencies today. They are holding meetings with workers to discuss the social and economic development program of our country for the next five years, adopted by the Belarusian People’s Congress. They are also taking part in the From Heart to Heart campaign,” Igor Sergeyenko said.

The parliament speaker himself is working on 5 January in his own constituency in Braslav. Prior to the meeting with district officials, held at the Braslav Gymnasium named after Hero of the Soviet Union I.N. Volchkov, Igor Sergeyenko visited the Braslav Ozerny nursing home in the village of Zabornyye Gumna, Braslav District.

Wrapping up his visit to the nursing home, Igor Sergeyenko noted that there are 89 such state institutions in Belarus, accommodating 20,000 people. In addition, there are 18 private care homes.
The chairman of the House of Representatives, together with the leadership of Braslav District, presented the residents of the nursing home with sweet gifts, congratulating them on the holidays. Igor Sergeyenko spoke with the people living at the facility and inspected their living conditions.

“Using this nursing home as an example, it can be said that comprehensive social support is provided to people who, due to various life circumstances, have found themselves in a difficult situation and are left alone. The state did not abandon them to face their problems alone but gives them the opportunity to lead a fairly active life,” Igor Sergeyenko noted, pointing out that the facility also has a garden plot.

“The conditions are indeed comfortable,” he emphasized.

As for the second part of his working trip, the meeting with Braslav District officials, the chairman of the House of Representatives noted that they discussed the implementation of the country’s five-year social and economic development program across its seven identified priorities, including in relation to the life of this district, whose potential is quite high. He clarified that this means the development of tourism, entrepreneurship, and the industrial sector.
At the same time, he pointed out the need for more productive work in agriculture. In the district, “there is essentially one large agricultural enterprise that fulfills the set tasks, so others need to catch up,” he noted.

“The results of the past year have been summed up, meaning a certain foundation has been laid,” Igor Sergeyenko said. Referring to the words of the head of state, he emphasized that now is the time for concrete actions. “We must fill the life of the regions with concrete deeds,” he concluded.
