Belarusian MP, UAE ambassador discuss inter-parliamentary dialogue, trade

MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) – Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Sergei Aleinik met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the UAE to Belarus Ibrahim Salim Al Musharrakh and told journalists about the pressing issues on the bilateral agenda, BelTA has learned.

“We maintain regular contacts with the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates. The UAE is one of the most important partners of Belarus, and in recent years we have placed special emphasis on intensifying parliamentary dialogue and parliamentary cooperation,” Sergei Aleinik noted.
For instance, in February 2025, on the sidelines of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova met with First Deputy Speaker of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates Tariq Al Tayer. Contacts were also maintained at the level of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly: in October 2025, Sergei Aleinik met with his counterpart in Geneva. “We have extended an invitation to the speaker of Parliament and are working to intensify inter-parliamentary contacts, elevating them to a qualitatively new level, including through the signing of a corresponding inter-parliamentary agreement,” the chairman of the Standing Commission said.

Belarus maintains multifaceted cooperation with the United Arab Emirates in trade and investment, and this serves as the foundation of bilateral relations. Alongside this, partnership is developing in education, sports, and tourism. “The UAE is a magnet for Belarusian tourists, and we, naturally, count on attracting more tourists from the UAE to our country. To this end, a visa facilitation agreement was signed and ratified, effectively lifting visa requirements between our two countries,” he emphasized.
Another important aspect is that in 2025, a trade agreement was signed between the Eurasian Economic Union and the United Arab Emirates, which provides for the creation of more favorable conditions for duty-free trade and opens up significant opportunities for increasing goods flow between our countries. This arrangement will soon yield results, the chairman stressed.

The meeting also touched upon the interregional agenda, as the UAE plays an important role in organizing and advancing the negotiation process between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States [the first two rounds of talks took place in Abu Dhabi], as well as participating in addressing humanitarian issues. “We exchanged views. Here we are united in seeking ways and facilitating the earliest possible resolution of this conflict,” Sergei Aleinik said.

Considerable activity is also observed in the exchange of visits by business circles. At the recent Gulfood food exhibition in Dubai, held in late January 2026, Belarus was represented across two pavilions, with a record number of domestic companies participating. According to Sergei Aleinik, this indicates that Belarusian food and agricultural products are in demand and highly popular. Furthermore, the UAE can serve as a gateway for promoting Belarusian goods to African and Asian countries, utilizing the transport and logistics capabilities available there.
Cooperation between Belarus and the UAE in the field of high technology is also actively developing. “Our companies are interacting actively, and the ambassador of the United Arab Emirates plans to visit the Hi-Tech Park to explore prospects for expanding cooperation. This is a dynamically developing area that is in demand on our bilateral track,” he noted.

Today, the legal framework between Belarus and the UAE comprises over 20 agreements covering key areas of interaction: economy, investment, trade, healthcare, education, social issues, legal assistance, and others. “We are currently working on preparing an inter-parliamentary agreement for signing, which will pave the way for further steps,” Sergei Aleinik concluded.
