
TIANJIN, 30 August (BelTA) – The Shanghai Cooperation Organization enables countries to jointly deal with global problems and regional problems of the modern world. Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov made the relevant statement for mass media in Tianjin, China where a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is expected to take place on 31 August – 1 September, BelTA has learned. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko will take part in the summit.
Maxim Ryzhenkov said: “As operating principles of many international universal and subregional organizations are eroding, we are forced together with our partners and friends to develop regional organizations in a bid to resolve global problems and regional problems of the modern world. Where we cannot find a consensus on global international platforms. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is one of these organizations.”
The Belarusian minister of foreign affairs drew attention to a number of cooperation avenues pursued within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization such as security, economic development, energy development, cultural cooperation, and humanitarian cooperation. “Along all these tracks today we have an opportunity to work out joint decisions of importance for all SCO countries. On this platform we can also deal with bilateral issues with each state. This organization actually comprises like-minded individuals, who have the same look on world development processes and are ready to pool efforts for the sake of making our planet, our region more secure, more stable, and for the sake of their development,” he said.
According to the minister, during the president’s visit a number of exceedingly important decisions will be signed to determine the operation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in the near future. “They will focus on artificial intelligence, digital development, the planet’s green development agenda, the creation of new structures that will deal with counterterrorism and counterdrug activities, which is important for our region. This session will also lock in the established procedures of the organization’s operation to a large extent,” the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs said.
Apart from that, the head of state is expected to have a series of meetings with his colleagues in a bid to address the foreign policy initiatives and foreign economic affairs that are important for the country. “The key meeting will be the one with President Xi Jinping. Matters of utmost importance for our country will be discussed during the meeting,” the official said.
