Belarus, Sri Lanka plan to relaunch joint trade and economic commission

MINSK, 23 October (BelTA) - Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov met with Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka Aruni Yasodha Wijewardane on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan on 23 October, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The parties discussed the development of bilateral relations in the political, trade, economic and humanitarian dimensions.

The parties reaffirmed mutual interest in resuming ministerial consultations and the joint Belarusian-Sri Lankan commission on trade and economic cooperation. 

The need of increasing and diversifying mutually balanced trade was noted. In the context of humanitarian cooperation, the parties highlighted the importance of education programs for students from Sri Lanka in Belarus, primarily in medical universities.

The parties expressed interest in the development of tourism, which will help strengthen people-to-people ties.
