MINSK, 8 July (BelTA) – Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov held talks with Russia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov and heads of delegations from several other countries on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Summit Session in Rio de Janeiro, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.

“At the meeting with the head of the Russian delegation to the BRICS Summit, Sergei Lavrov, the parties discussed further coordination of their foreign ministries within the UN, BRICS, SCO, and other multilateral platforms, and a number of other issues related to bilateral political cooperation,” the press service stated.

During talks with Uganda’s Vice President Jessica Rose Alupo, the parties reviewed the implementation of agreements reached during the Belarusian prime minister’s visit to Uganda in February. These agreements cover such areas as manufacturing industry, food security, energy, and military-technical cooperation.

“The parties praised the intensification of bilateral contacts and outlined directions to further interstate dialogue. As a first step, a visit by the vice president of Uganda to Belarus has been planned to discuss cooperation in the mechanization of the country’s agriculture and the supply of Belarusian food products,” the ministry noted.

On the sidelines of the summit, Maksim Ryzhenkov also held meetings with UAE Minister of State Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. The parties touched upon interstate agreements reached during official visits to Belarus and highest-level meetings.
