Belarus’ MFA: Vision of historical truth needs protection in today's hostile climate

MINSK, 25 November (BelTA) - A profound understanding of traditional values and a shared vision of historical truth clearly need protection in today’s hostile climate, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov told the media following a joint meeting of the collegiums of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Russia in Moscow on 25 November, BelTA has learned.

“In accordance with our agreed agenda, we conducted a substantive, results-oriented review of several areas where we must qualitatively intensify our joint work,” said Maxim Ryzhenkov. “In particular, this concerns our deep, fundamental understanding of traditional values and our vision of historical truth, which in the current hostile conditions clearly need to be defended, using all available instruments without exception and on all available platforms.”

“We acknowledged the significant potential of various Groups of Friends within the UN framework, which allow us to advance themes of great importance to us, such as the categorical unacceptability of unilateral coercive measures, the protection of traditional family values, the fight against human trafficking, and the struggle against the manifestations of neocolonialism. We firmly agreed to continue our work on UN platforms regarding the fight against the glorification of Nazism and the unequivocal recognition of the genocide of the peoples of the Soviet Union during the Second World War,” the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs said.

He confirmed the importance of close collaboration between Belarusian and Russian embassies in organizing joint memorial events, engaging both colleagues from like-minded nations who share our stance on historical memory and the broader public.

Maxim Ryzhenkov expressed confidence that mutual, united, and principled position on these issues can and should become a powerful ideological platform for consolidating healthy and progressive forces on the international stage.

At the invitation of the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov paid a working visit to Moscow on 24-25 November to participate in the annual joint meeting of the collegiums of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Russia. These joint meetings have been held annually since 2000, alternating between Belarus and Russia, and serve as an effective mechanism for synchronizing the two countries’ efforts on the international stage. The parties took stock of the interim results of implementing the decisions of the previous meeting and the program of concerted actions in foreign policy of the states party to the Union State Treaty for 2024-2026.
