MINSK, 13 February (BelTA) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Brazil Andrei Andreyev met with President of the Alexandre de Gusmao Foundation (FUNAG) Jose Raphael Lopes Mendes de Azeredo on 12 February, representatives of the Embassy of Belarus in Brazil told BelTA.

FUNAG is the main government body for strategic planning under the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and one of Brazil’s leading think tanks. It plays a key role in shaping the national foreign policy agenda.
During the meeting the head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission outlined Minsk’s position regarding global challenges. Particular emphasis was placed on Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko’s peace initiatives aimed at resolving crises and forming a sustainable security architecture.

The parties engaged in a substantive conversation about the current state of the Belarusian-Brazilian dialogue and prospects for expanding it in a bilateral format and at multilateral platforms such as the United Nations Organization and BRICS.

The meeting resulted in an agreement to establish analytical and expert cooperation between the ministries of foreign affairs and national research institutions, including the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Research (BISR).

The Alexandre de Gusmao Foundation is named after the outstanding 18th-century Portuguese-Brazilian diplomat, personal secretary to King John V of Portugal, and the actual architect of a significant part of the borders of modern Brazil.
